GayTravel.com Names Whistler in the Top 5 in the World
Gay Travel Guru, Nick Vivion of GayTravel.com along with some of his colleagues experienced GayWhistler’s WinterPRIDE this past year, naming WinterPRIDE the #2 in the World for Best Gay Ski Weeks! From the look of their video montage it looks like they had a wicked experience and showed the diversity of activities that can be done from Skiing/Snowboarding, Nordic Skiing, Bi-Athlon (complete with riffle shooting), hot tub parties, culinary events, dining, comedy show, and of course the fun apres ski parties and the big dance parties.

Screaming Ski Season Deals - Whistler
So here we are mid August and we are already looking ahead to a stellar winter snow season. Yeah, I know... here in the Vancouver/Whistler region we have not had much of a summer... that is in part due to the HUGE snow pack we had this year which has helped keep our temperatures lower than normal, the good news in this is 
1) for the first time in hundreds of years the glaciers on Whistler / Blackcomb appear to be advancing (aka growing!) 2) the alpine still has a fairly healthy snow pack which is all going to mean a better base for this upcoming season 3) long range forecasts are showing that this will be another EPIC snow season! Game On! Whistler Opens Nov. 12th
Game on...
Whistler Mountain OPENING this Saturday, Nov. 14 - that's 12 days earlier than the official opening day on Nov. 26. A series of storms have pummeled Whistler Blackcomb, dropping 70cm-100cm over the last seven days. Another 65cm of snow is expected to fall by Saturday. Our operations crews have been hard at work preparing the mountain, including our Snowmaking Team, which has more than 160+ snowguns blasting to compliment Mother Nature's white gold.
Whistler Mountain is opening this weekend with upload via the Whistler Village Gondola. Skiing will be available via Franz's Chair, Emerald Express and Big Red Express.
Early season conditions are in effect so keep an eye out for unmarked rocks and obstacles. Please stay within the ski area boundaries and obey all mountain signage. Groomed runs are recommended.
Early season lift tickets will be $59 this weekend and with Cornucopia running Nov. 12-15, there are great accommodation deals available.

Whistler, Canada to Host Mr. Gay World Competition

Setting the stage of the inaugural event as Executive Producers is GayWhistler’s WinterPRIDE. “We are so thrilled to welcome the Mr. Gay
World organization to be an integral part of this year’s WinterPRIDE Festival” explains Dean Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of Alpenglow Productions, the producers of WinterPRIDE. “We are working with some really creative ways in which we are able to weave this global competition into the festival and add a much richer and exciting experience to both the delegates, the participants of the festival and as well as, the community of Whistler.”
Award winning artist, Terry Costa, from Mirateca Arts, has been recruited to direct the finale to Mr. Gay World on Saturday, February 7th. The event will be hosted by Olympic medal winner Mark Tewksbury and Costa promises that “the wow factor will be present to delight the international talent and patrons that will join the WinterPRIDE festivities in Whistler.”
The Mr. Gay World Competition will see 24 men vie for the covenant title in a 4-day, indoor/outdoor series of events to help a panel of judges identify a strong leader that will inspire those around him and fight for equality of all humans. The competition includes physical tests and interviews. Majority of the scoring are on qualities of being a role model, leader, effective communicator, compassionate, articulate and a willingness to try new things and meet new people. The remaining points are reserved for how well the delegate looks after himself. The winner of the competition will receive a scholarship for the opportunity to travel to various countries to help support or mentor Prides and other LGBT organizations.

Whistler to Host Inaugural Mr. Gay Canada Competition
Whistler, BC – The first nationwide search for Mr. Gay Canada is set to take place September 18-21st, 2008. Hosted in the idyllic mountain resort of Whistler, BC, the primary purpose of the Mr. Gay Canada (MGC) is to identify leaders who will take responsibility not only in his own community but also on a global stage speaking out for equal rights. Mr. Gay Canada is a positive role model and will work on humanizing being gay and act as an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Tourism Ambassador for Canada.
Setting the stage of the inaugural event as Presenting Sponsor and Host Hotel is The Fairmont Chateau Whistler. “We are so thrilled to welcome the support of The Fairmont Chateau Whistler” explains Dean Nelson, Executive Producer of Mr. Gay Canada. “We are working with the Fairmont team to come up with some very exciting challenges for our delegates that will test their abilities to think on their feet while evoking the brand qualities of Fairmont. Working with a Canadian hotel chain and one that is so iconic was really important to the organization as we see many similar traits – we are both trail blazers!”
The Mr. Gay Canada Competition is a 3-day, indoor/outdoor series of events to help our judges identify a strong spokesman or ambassador to tell the world about our mission. The competition includes physical tests and interviews with a panel of judges. Only 15% of the judging points are assigned to appearance, which means 85% of the points are for qualities in character and leadership. The winner of the competition will receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles in February 2009 to represent Canada in the International Mr. Gay Competition.

Whistler, BC – The first nationwide search for Mr. Gay Canada is set to take place September 18-21st, 2008. Hosted in the idyllic mountain resort of Whistler, BC, the primary purpose of the Mr. Gay Canada (MGC) is to identify leaders who will take responsibility not only in his own community but also on a global stage speaking out for equal rights. Mr. Gay Canada is a positive role model and will work on humanizing being gay and act as an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Tourism Ambassador for Canada.
Setting the stage of the inaugural event as Presenting Sponsor and Host Hotel is The Fairmont Chateau Whistler. “We are so thrilled to welcome the support of The Fairmont Chateau Whistler” explains Dean Nelson, Executive Producer of Mr. Gay Canada. “We are working with the Fairmont team to come up with some very exciting challenges for our delegates that will test their abilities to think on their feet while evoking the brand qualities of Fairmont. Working with a Canadian hotel chain and one that is so iconic was really important to the organization as we see many similar traits – we are both trail blazers!”
The Mr. Gay Canada Competition is a 3-day, indoor/outdoor series of events to help our judges identify a strong spokesman or ambassador to tell the world about our mission. The competition includes physical tests and interviews with a panel of judges. Only 15% of the judging points are assigned to appearance, which means 85% of the points are for qualities in character and leadership. The winner of the competition will receive an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles in February 2009 to represent Canada in the International Mr. Gay Competition.

Whistler’s WinterPRIDE 2008 expands lesbian programming with promise of being “the world’s most inclusive gay ski week”
Whistler, BC – Whistler’s WinterPRIDE 2008 – a winter version of the many summer pride events that are held around the world – is keeping true to its promise of being “the world’s most inclusive gay ski week” by introducing an exciting new program of activities for women.
The headline events of WinterPRIDE’s 2008 women’s programming include:
An intimate and interactive evening with Curve magazine columnists Lipstick (Gina Daggett) and Dipstick (Kathy Belge) at the lesbian-owned and operated Solarice Spa + Wellness Centre
Women’s Night of Music, headlined by American singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick, who has previously won ‘Album of the Year’ from the Gay and Lesbian American Music Association
Women’s guided ski tours with celebrity 3 times ESPN X-Games Gold Medalist Missy “the Missile” Giove , après ski parties and sleigh-ride adventures
The infamous L Party to round off the week
“We have certainly seen an increase in female attendance over the last two years and we wanted to produce an even higher range and quality of events for them at WinterPRIDE 2008,” said Sean Kearns, President of Alpenglow Productions. “We are breaking down the barriers of what can and can’t be done with a gay ski week event, and we will continue to broaden our offerings to make WinterPRIDE the most inclusive gay ski week in the world.”
The new focus on women’s programming has already caught the attention of OutTraveler, America's premiere gay and lesbian travel magazine, which called WinterPRIDE “the most lesbian-friendly [gay ski week] of the bunch” in its December 2007 issue.
“We hope our new programming will encourage even more women to attend so they can meet in a unique and fun environment, enjoying the full WinterPRIDE experience,” said Kearns.
WinterPRIDE 2008 runs from February 3-10, 2008, and continues to revolutionize the traditional gay ski week format with its unique blend of four winter festival elements: Sports, Culinary, Health and Wellness, and Entertainment.
In addition to the world-class skiing and snowboarding on offer in Whistler, many of WinterPRIDE’s 2007 highlights will return for 2008, such as an array of dance parties, culinary events, ziptrekking and dogsledding.
