The Mayor and the Resort Municipality of Whistler released the following statement after the tragic loss of Whistler freestyle skier Sarah Burke. It is with a heavy heart that we must say good bye to such a talented athlete. Along with her accomplishments on the slopes, Sarah will also be remembered for her efforts to make half pipe skiing an official Olympic event.
Sarah will always be recognized as a pioneer in her sport of freestyle skiing and a legend to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Sarah was one of our own and this is a very sad day for our community.
